Stockings: yes or not? The topic is a must, mostly on these super cold days, during which many of you must be facing one of the greatest dilemmas of our age: if I wear stockings, will I look bad?

Here’s my take on it: class is nothing without reason, pertinence and harmony with the environment and the season.

What’s your first thought when you see a girl without stockings at a temperature of 2 degrees? Mine is: oh my god, she must be freezing! I feel awkward towards her, and even pity her a tiny bit. Therefore if this isn’t the kind of feelings you want people to have about you, let’s talk about stockings and about how to wear them in the best way, instead of not wearing them at all (unless you’re a model)!

Here’s a must-have for your closet: a pair of nude stockings. Kate Middleton docet (she wears them even in summer) and Karl Lagerfel didn’t have any doubt about displaying them on the catwalk. Be careful: the tone needs to be exact. Nude stockings are like foundation: if you choose the wrong tone, the result will turn out terribly wrong.

Avoid the shiny effect, unless you’re Beyoncé. 8 or 20 deniers are perfect to minimize imperfections and achieve a nice nude effect. 40 deniers are totally out. Emilio Cavallini offers some great ones, not too expensive and very resistant (and if you feel daring, his leopard print is super fashion right now).

If you wear tight dresses, I suggest these seamless stockings by Golden Lady, with adjustable waist and completely invisible under any dress: they’re great both in nude and sheer black, which provides you a very elegant look. Moreover, I love heavy black tights: they are very chic, for example paired with total black ballerinas or with high-heeled black shoes (check out this wonderful pair by Givenchy).

Wolford is another cool brand, both for cache-mire and for some cheaper 20’s inspired fish-net stockings. My final recommendations: never wear them with sandals, and never with cuissard boots. And finally, sometimes allow yourself to something crazy.
