Today I want to talk to you about a topic I particularly care about. Maybe I never told you, but, even since I was a little girl, I’ve always been very passionate about everything that deals with welcoming. I have no idea how this passion was born, but I remember being at a cocktail party of some of my parents’ friends, when, at the age of about 15, I wondered: is there a formula to throw perfect receptions, parties, lunches and breakfasts? This was an interest (and a question) I got more and more curious about during the years, so I started reading, observing, reflecting and asking those who knew better than me.

Therefore, now I’d like to share with you some of the rules and ideas I learnt during my years of “apprenticeship”. First of all, a special reception always starts with a special dishes set. This is is one my favorite ones at the moment: it is made of concrete and was handmade by a very popular maison in the USA: Etsy. Another fundamental ingredient to creat the right atmosphere are candles (even during the day, if you ask me), and therefore even a great candle-holder. Just remember that you need to take care about details just as much as you need to take care about the totality. Never use mediocre accessories. For example, choose a cute salt and pepper set and, most of all, nice bowls, that will surely become the stars of your table.

Moreover, if you want your reception to be an unique experience, you’d better forget about paper handkerchief. Linen is way much better! It will offer both a visual and tactile experience. Always remember to use colorful and funny place cards. As regards cutlery, I suggest silver (you can lend it from your grandma!). As a centerpiece I usually use eucalyptus gum, because other than being gorgeous, also smells great. And now some tips: replace ice cubes with some slices of iced lemon or lime. Set up a tiny space where your guests will be able to prepare their own cocktails, according to their tastes. Don’t forget thinking about those who don’t drink alcohol and offer even non-alcoholic ingredients.

Create a bright environment with colorful ribbons, maybe applying them on seat-backs.

Even fruit can bring colors to your table and room: you can use it as seat marks, writing on it the names of your guests.

And finally, I must recommend you, lights, lights, lights, even colorful ones, mostly during the Christmas period. And now, let’s the party begin!
